Sightings

Here are some interesting sightings of Chris' mandalas:

"The Modern Mandala" at Endicott College

I am honored to be a part of Endicott College's "The Modern Mandala" exhibit from August 20 to September 26th.  The visual display of contemporary mandala artists is a wonderfully vibrant collection of spiritual art.  Three other artists and myself were selected to present our interpretation of this ancient spiritual artform.  The exhibit is housed in the Art Center at Endicott College in Beverly, MA.  The artists reception is slated for September 17th at 4:30 PM.  Click on image for exhibit web site:

The Organic Mechanic

I had the good fortune to be contacted by this very cool organization for an interview.   The article very nicely sums up my artistic vision and goals.  I am very pleased to have been the subject and very grateful for the exposure.

DAMANHUR Conference

I had the unique opportunity to meet and greet Esperide Ananas of the Federation of Damanhur in New York.  Esperide was a guest of Alex and Allyson Grey who held a conference on Damanhur.  Esperide was my guest on "Turning Of The Wheel," radio show.  Damanhur is a marvelous eco-arts community located in the mountains of Italy.  Esperide explained the focus and future of this enlightened group of people.  My interview with Esperide is archived on the Contact Talk Radio web site or you can listen to a podcast with iTunes if you go to the iTunes Store and search on "Chris Flisher."  THANK YOU Esperide!

Alex Grey's CoSM Gallery

On a recent visit to New York, I had the opportunity to speak with Alex Grey about his future projects and his apperance on "Turning Of The Wheel" radio show. The occasion was a fund-raising event for the Grey's proposed new spiritual center in upsate New York.  The private party was hosted by the Grey's at their CoSM Gallery in New York city.  About 100 people gathered for this festive occasion that included displays of the new center; performances by local artists; and a retrospective of Alex's distinguished artistic career.  My interview with Alex is archived on the Contact Talk Radio web site or you can listen to a podcast with iTunes if you go to the iTunes Store and search on "Chris Flisher."  THANK YOU Alex!

Custom Hand-drawn Mandalas

This is a photo of a custom mandala that I created for a private house.  This mandala, titled, "ManiDala" sits at the center of the peak of a porch on this family's house.  This mandala was painted with acrylics and has an extra coating of protective sealer to shield it from the elements.  I used the four elements as the central focus.  Fire, earth, air, and water are held in balance in the circular form that was painted on plywood and mounted in the peak of the porch.  Many thanks to the family!  I am available to paint a mandala for anyone of any size and dimension.  Call me!

"A Bridge To Possibility" by Susan Sloane

I had the good fortune to be the subject of an article written by free lance writer Susan Sloane.  Susan is an established writer who focuses primarily on spiritual and metaphysical topics.  Her article was featured "The Messanger in June 2007.  Click here to read http://www.editred.com/Uploads/st_58391_Creating_A_Bridge_To_Poss

Kerouac Art and Words

Lowell native and writer, Jack Kerouac was a firm believer in the power of art.  He often wrote short pieces and accompanied them with small hand-drawn sketches.  It was the combination of different medias that appealed to him.  He espoused the Buddhist concepts of the dharma, the diamond way, in all he approached, both in his life and his work.  He was influential in bringing modern Buddhist concepts to the Beat Generation and to the greater pre-hippie movement.  He was a pioneer in every sense.  When he first composed "On The Road" he wrote in a continual stream of consciousness on one long taped piece of paper.  The original scroll is over 120 feet long and on display in Lowell to celebrate the 50th anniversary of publishing.  The Arts League of Lowell (ALL) has sponsored a display of artists who collaborated on bringing art and words together.  I was fortunate enough to work with Lowell poet Walter Bacigalupo and painted "Yanta" in response to his poem and vice versa.  The pieces are on display at the ALL gallery on Market Street in downtown Lowell.

Lowell Arts Walk

This project involves the work of approximately 40 artists from the Arts League of Lowell in collaboration with various retailers in downtown Lowell.  My exhibit is located at a wonderful storefront directly across from the Revolving Museum and the New England Quilt Museum, both located on Shattuck Street in downtown Lowell.  This is an excellent site and my work will be highly visible during the Lowell Folk Festival which occurs on the 27, 28 and 29 of July 2007.  The exhibit culminates with a juried panel of judges who award prizes for the best display and artwork.  Fingers crossed.

ARTventures of Lowell

This project was commissioned by the Revolving Museum in conjunction with its ARTventures program which is on display throughout downtown Lowell for the remainder of the summer.  This mandala is 8 feet tall and was created with the help of the students at the Rogers School during the spring of 2007.  The mandala is on display in Lucy Larcom Park on Merrimack Street in Lowell.  This mysterious photo was taken from the street.

Saving Lives Through Art (SLTA)

This project involves artists from all over the country, banning together to use art to prevent drunk driving.  Chris was asked to be the featured artist.  His art will be used on the projects tee shirts.  Check out the web site.  Thanks go to Andy Hilton for a great job!

Coalition of Modern Artists (COMA)

What is Art?  This age old question has been debated for centuries by intellectuals, purists, artists and fools.  From Picasso  to Hip-Hop; if it feels good, then it is good. Instead of us  joining in the fray by trying to concoct a definition we’re just going to give you some really sweet offerings.  So sit back, open your mind and get ready to inhale.
COMA is the brainchild of Jenner Barrington-Ward.  Thank YOU Jenner!!!

Project Light with the Revolving Museum

The Rogers School

Lowell, MA

This project involves a group of 8th grade students from Lowell.  They are creating a collaborative mandala that will be displayed in June of 2007 at the Lowell ARTventures Festival.  The mandala is a collaboration between Chris and the students.  This particular project is an 18-section mandala.  Each student is responsible for 1/18 of the artwork.  Chris has begun work on the center of the mandala while the students work on the outer rim of the mandala.  This is still a work in progress, but you can see the begiinings hangin in this photo.  The mandala will be displayed at the Carnival of Creativity at Lucy Larcom Park on June 9th 2007 in Lowell, MA.  Visit www.lowellartventures.org for more information.

Art Builds Community (ABC) Project on
Mass. Ave, Central Square,
Cambridge, MA.

This large mandala (8' ft dia.) was drawn by Chris and a group of urban teenagers over the course of the summer of '06.  The Art Builds Community organization approached Chris and asked if he would donate his time to this project.  The group consisted of eight people altogether.  Chris divided the circle into eight even portions.  The center of the mandala was created by group process while the outer sections represent the work of each indiviudual.  Chris asked the individuals their astrology sign and used that as the basis for the individual sections. This allowed each person to express themselves in a unique fashion.  All the colors, patterns, and symbols of the signs are evident. The group had two Aries, a Scorpio, a Leo, two Taurus, a Cancer, and an Aquarius. Very cool, very unique project that readily showed the characteristics of each person and astrology sign.

The smaller mandalas in the window are "OM My God" (top left), "Divine Intervention" (bottom left) and "Hope Floats" (with red boarder) and are Chris'.

Barn Mandala -
an 8 foot zodiacal mandala on barn doors
This is a photo taken through the rear view mirror of Chris' MINI Cooper looking at the astrological mandala he drew on the outside of his barn in Boxborough.  This mandala is about 7 feet in diameter and represents all the signs, elements, quadriplicities (modes), and ruling planets of each sign.  In the center is a Ying/Yang symbol.  This was created with acrylic paints and is coated with a glossy seal.  This mandala is documented in the short DVD film, "Mandalas: Spirit in Art" with Chris.  This film will be available soon from this site.  Stay tuned....

MINI Roof Graphic - "Astrologic" on Roof of MINI Cooper
This mandala is a huge digital decal.  Chris took a scanned version of his mandala, "Astrologic" and saved it as a JPEG.  He then sent it to a sign printer that created this enlarged version of the file.  This mandala is 42" in diameter and was applied in the summer of '06 with the help of Sign-A-Rama of Chelmsford, MA.  It is guananteed for 10 years and goes through the carwash without a hitch!  Chris will take orders to have any of his mandalas reproduced in this manner.  Order yours today and make your vehicle unique.  Chris will also draw a custom-made mandala based on YOUR birthchart data and create a one-of-a-kind image that represents YOU and only you!  Email Chris at http://www.chrisflisher.com

Book Cover for AstroWeather - "Astrological" on book cover
"Astrologic" appears again!  Is this a signal from aliens?  Actually it is a book cover for an astrological "famer's almanac" that Chris enjoys.  There are four versions of the book that cover each of the four time zones in the United States.  These are paperback books and can be ordered through Lightworks.com or simply Google Astro-Weather.

Magazine Cover for Monthly Aspectarian - "So What" on cover
"So What," is the mandala that Chris titled after the famous opening cut of the classic jazz album "Kind Of Blue" by Miles Davis.  This is a magazine dedicated to astrolgy and all things holistic.  It hails out of the greater Chicago area and is the work of Guy Spiro who also the author of the "Astro-Weather" series.
Chris' love of Miles Davis goes back many years.  This is the one album in his enormous collection that never gets filed away.  Of the thousands of times he has listened to it, he has never grown tired of it.  It is the work of true genius and offers new insights with each listen.
