    AS ABOVE, SO BELOW:

Last month I discussed the idea of recognizing all signs as ours.  This is important when learning astrology.  That single concept answers so many questions people have when they discover characteristics of their individual charts.  To have Mars in Scorpio, for example, might explain physical drives and needs.  Moon in Cancer would indicate sensitivity and a strong femininity in a person, whereas Venus in Aries represents someone who displays their heart openly with affection and charm   It all fits in the end.  Trust me.  If you have specific questions you can always email me at chris@chrisflisher.com.  Archived issues of this newsletter are located here.  http://www.chrisflisher.com/radio_000.htm

    Forecast:
Before I begin a discussion on, “The Second House” (Astrology 101), I want to alert you to a few significant events this month.  That oft-dreaded transit (movement) of Mercury in retrograde (motion) begins on the 12th of October.  Despite all the bad press Mercury gets during retrograde, it’s important to focus on the positive events that happen when we return to issues.  The prefix “re” forces us to do just that; re-view, re-fund, re-new and so on.  Even though going over the past can be laborious, it is also often necessary.  It’s how we get things right.  How many times have you acted on something only to realize it was a mistake in the end.  Re-trospect allows you to right that wrong.  Hence re-trograde can be a valuable transit.  Mercury goes retrograde for roughly three weeks.  Typical responses to Mercury retrograde are broken computers, missed communications and all things that deal with personal interchange.  At the same time Mars begins his transit through Cancer.  Cancer is the sign of emotions, maternal energy, and all things domestic.  Mars is predominantly a male energy source and feels a little out of sorts in this landscape of femininity.  Therefore you’ll likely find yourself driven towards the home and emotional, maternal issues.  This is especially true depending on how Mars is aspected (placed) in your chart.   Elsewhere, Saturn continues to settle into a comfortable spot in Virgo.  Virgo is a sign that represents service, attention to detail, and health.  Saturn is the planet that embodies responsibility, accountability and hard work.  The combination of the two allows us to get down to details and solve some long-overdue tasks.  The rewards come in time as issues around health, money, service to others and organization all come to light under Saturn’s transit through Virgo.  My friend and astrologer Joyce Levine mentioned to me the other day during the radio show that more millionaires are Virgos than any other sign.  Saturn in Virgo is a great time to put energy into making that dollar work for you.   Focus on positive events and always be open to possibilities.

    Astrology 101:

    The Second House

The second house is the house that applies to money.  (I bet that got your attention.)  Money, personal possessions, financial relationships, and all things material are found in the second house.  As I mentioned before, a “house” is where the influence is felt in your life.  If you think of astrology as a play, the house is the stage set.  It’s where the action is.  Each house represents a different area.  The planets you have in your second house will define your relationship to money and all things financial and material.  Now, what if you have no planets in your second house?  This can happen and it simply means that you are not focused on money to the extent of another who may have that placement.  For example, Mars in the second house indicates a strong drive to gather money since Mars is about drive and ambition.

The second house is best described by a series of adjectives including; money, finance, banks, banker, budgets, cash, checks, debts, personal earning capacity, freedom, financial losses, gifts bestowed or received, income, inheritance of power, “I” possess, investments, material resources, possessions, negotiable assets, partner's death, personal values, physical senses, self-worth, stockbrokers, talents, and wealth.  Ultimately, the second house represents  an awareness of the tangible components of life.  By no small coincidence,  the second house is directly opposite the eighth house, the house of death.  It stands to reason that the second house would, therefore, reflect money, rebirth and inheritance and surely it does. The best way to understand this relationship in your personal chart is to look to the planets in your second house or those aspected (angled) to it.   For more in-depth discussion of astrology, contact Chris.  Personal readings are always available by emailing Chris at chris@chrisflisher.com.  Visit http://www.chrisflisher.com/astrology for Fees and Services.

      SPIRIT IN ART:

“So What” – This month’s mandala is a nod to my great love of Miles Davis.  “So What” is the opening cut to Davis’s seminal album “Kind Of Blue.”  This is the one album that I own that I can listen to at any time of day and be satisfied and inspired.  It is also the one album I have never tired of hearing.  The music is modal by definition and has such depth that I continually hear something new with each listen; so will you.

The following text is excerpted from Chris’s forthcoming book, “Mandalas: Spirit In Art”

    “So What”

Named after the classic jazz album by Miles Davis, this mandala encompasses a wide range of emotions, symbology, and spirituality.   The chakras, the Chinese symbols for the five elements: earth, air, water, fire and metal, forgiveness, love, Buddha, and peace surround the central figure known as Om.  The swirl of color and sparkling effervescence give the impression of an exotic Moroccan market. At the same time the disparate, unrelated symbols all point to the universal goodness of mankind.  The lotus theme at each corner surrounds and lifts the central themes to the level where they transcend the ordinary in a heady swirl of oneness. All is one in the world.
